Special Addition to the Lyon Village General Meeting on Monday, May 14, 8pm at the Community House
Narrowing of 13th Street. Tom Hutchins from the County will be presenting the final plan for initial improvements to be made to 13th Street, between Highland and Ivy Streets. These improvements, in the planning phase for the last few years are finally going to begin to be implemented with the start of Phase I. Please come to see and comment on the final design. As part of the improvements, the center median is to be removed and the roadway narrowed while still providing parking on both sides. Nubs and crosswalks will be added creating a gateway into the neighborhood while slowing traffic. The additional space from the narrowing will create a planted buffer on the Lyon Village side. Phase I will only include one or two blocks of the improvements, with later phases to follow.

Main Presentation: Trees in our Neighborhoods. Arlington has suffered a huge decline in its tree canopy over the last 30 years, and old-growth trees continue to die at staggering rates. Our communities across Arlington must make a concerted effort to begin replacing this beautiful canopy as soon as possible. It is important to plant trees in your yard, particularly trees such as oaks, maples and elms that fill-in the tree canopy. Ornamental trees, like Japanese Maples aren’t much help for this purpose.
At Monday’s meeting, Elizabeth Rives, the Tree Steward for Arlington-Alexandria will present Right Tree, Right Place, Right Now. The program, accompanied by a Power Point presentation, discusses why planting trees is important, the why’s and how’s of tree selection, and many other considerations and issues regarding our trees. Please come out for this important information.
Election of Lyon Village Officers for the 2007-08 term. The nominees are in, come to Monday’s General meeting for our annual elections.
