Volunteers Wanted to Beautify the Kirkwood Gateway to Our Community

As most Lyon Villagers will have noticed, the landscaping the County-owned land in front of the retaining wall for I-66 along Kirkwood Road from Lee Highway to just before N. 17th street is in serious need of some help. While this area was given some perfunctory landscaping over 25 years ago when the highway was constructed and it has had essentially no maintenance since then. The area has become overrun by invasive vines, such as English ivy and multiflora rose. Several of the mature trees have fallen and the few that remain are endangered. With a little TLC, this area could be a real credit to our community.

I would be willing to take the lead but I need help in two areas:

  • Volunteers to help removal of invasive vines and general cleanup;
  • Once the area has been brought into reasonable shape, we should consider the type of landscape.
  • Support from the LVCA to ensure continued participation by the County.
