The Police Unity Tour
The Police Unity Tour - Virginia Chapter will be bicycling from the Tidewater area to Washington, D.C. to the National Law Enforcement Officers' Memorial to remember and honor fallen officers who have died in the line of duty.
As members of the Tour, we are required to raise a minimum of $1,250.00 each and bicycle 250-plus miles.
his challenge is a small sacrifice in comparison to the families whose lives have been forever changed by the loss of a uniformed loved one.
The Police Unity Tour motto simply states, "We ride for those who died." This ride ensures the life and sacrifice of every American Officer slain in the line of duty is never forgotten.
There are several great causes to support, but we would appreciate any monetary support you can offer to our efforts (submit by April 11, 2008 - deadline).
**Tax deductible donations (see attached form) made to the Police Unity Tour (Tax ID #20-4003246), can be mailed to Cpl. B. LeFrancois #1203 at Arlington County Police Department: 1425 N. Courthouse Rd., Arlington, VA 22201.
**Secure online donations may be made at: WWW.FIRSTGIVING.COM/ACPD.

Volunteers Wanted to Beautify the Kirkwood Gateway to Our Community
As most Lyon Villagers will have noticed, the landscaping the County-owned land in front of the retaining wall for I-66 along Kirkwood Road from Lee Highway to just before N. 17th street is in serious need of some help. While this area was given some perfunctory landscaping over 25 years ago when the highway was constructed and it has had essentially no maintenance since then. The area has become overrun by invasive vines, such as English ivy and multiflora rose. Several of the mature trees have fallen and the few that remain are endangered. With a little TLC, this area could be a real credit to our community.
I would be willing to take the lead but I need help in two areas:
- Volunteers to help removal of invasive vines and general cleanup;
- Once the area has been brought into reasonable shape, we should consider the type of landscape.
- Support from the LVCA to ensure continued participation by the County.
